These Books Actually Exist

This 160 page book contains the work of Takako Iwasa, Japan’s #1 cat tailor.

Apparently this book discusses a twelve step plan to become cool.

There are no words.

I have to say I'venever read anything in the bible about God speaking through cats.

Seriously, you misspelled disapear not only once, but seven times?

Who cares? They were freakin Nazis/

Its more realistic that zombies would attack.

Why? Serisouly why?

Come to think of it, I really should teach my chihuahua physics.

This is both boring and dumb.

I'm sorry, where are these bodybuilders wearing tutus?

Thats just gross. And for a kids book?

Becasue this is the kind of clothes you should be wearing.

If you need this book, you don't need to be on a boat. Ever.

Struggles For People Who Don't Like People

I wouldn't say I hate people, but there are a lot of times I really don't like to be around a ton of people. I am an introvert by nature. Hanging around a few friends is fine, but being at a party with a bunch of people is normally not my idea of a good time. While I do like to go places with my fiancé I don't like having to interact with strangers.

When strangers sit next to you and you really hope they don't talk to you.

Small talk with strangers is the equivalent. of getting teeth pulled.

People who talk to you even if you have headphones in or are reading.

People's disgusting habits like sneezing and not covering their nose makes you cringe.

Its even worse when you have resting bitch face.

Your Saturday night usually consists of Netflix or reading.

You probably have a list of people you want to punch in the face.

Working in retail in a special kind of hell.

When your in public and people stand way too close.

People like to say your mean.

You think most people are stupid.

You are fluent in sarcasm.

You hate when sales people walk up to you.

Not fiction, but books they would have some information that could be helpful to me. Like useful information on how to keep your relationship healthy and things you and your partner should discuss. The Struggle Of Having Friends Who Don't Read

We all have friends who don't read for fun. Some of us even have friends who say they hate to read. Not meaning to sound rude, but I pity people who hate to read. I feel like they are really missing out. There can be some struggles to having friends who don't read.

When you tell them that silently reading in the same room is a great way to hang out.

They don't get it when you get really excited about a book, so its not like you can have a great conversation about it.

When you want to stay home and finish a book they think your lame.

They will tease you about what a homebody you are.

They don't understand your attachment to fictional characters.

When a book you have been waiting for comes out, they don't understand your excitement.

You have to try to keep your mouth shut when they say they will just wait for the movie to come out instead of reading the book.

You can recommend books all day long, but you know they will never read it.

They don't understand the excitement of getting a book as a gift.

Your book references will go over their heads.

Qoutes By Authors

“You should never read just for “enjoyment.” Read to make yourself smarter! Less judgmental. More apt to understand your friends’ insane behavior, or better yet, your own. Pick “hard books.” Ones you have to concentrate on while reading. And for god’s sake, don’t let me ever hear you say, “I can’t read fiction. I only have time for the truth.” Fiction is the truth, fool! Ever hear of “literature”? That means fiction, too, stupid.” — John Waters

“There is no friend as loyal as a book.”  — Ernest Hemingway

“What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you. Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave. They show us what community and friendship mean; they show us how to live and die.” — Anne Lamott

“I am simply a ‘book drunkard.’ Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them.” — L.M. Montgomery

Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.” — Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler)

“I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound or stab us. If the book we’re reading doesn’t wake us up with a blow to the head, what are we reading for? So that it will make us happy, as you write? Good Lord, we would be happy precisely if we had no books, and the kind of books that make us happy are the kind we could write ourselves if we had to. But we need books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us. That is my belief.” — Franz Kafka

“Read the best books first, or you may not have a chance to read them at all.” — Henry David Thoreau

“A book, too, can be a star, a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe.” — Madeleine L’Engle

“A book, too, can be a star, a living fire to lighten the darkness, leading out into the expanding universe.” — Madeleine L’Engle

“It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.” — Oscar Wilde

“Be awesome! Be a book nut!” — Dr. Seuss

“Good books, like good friends, are few and chosen; the more select, the more enjoyable.” — Louisa May Alcott

“No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.” — Confucius

“Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on. Reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. Reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it’s a way of making contact with someone else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real. Reading is grist. Reading is bliss.” — Nora Ephron

“A good book is an education of the heart. It enlarges your sense of human possibility what human nature is of what happens in the world. It’s a creator of inwardness.” — Susan Sontag

“Reading brings us unknown friends.” — HonorĂ© de Balzac

“To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.” — Victor Hugo

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” — Stephen King

“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” — Jorge Luis Borges

“I cannot live without books.” — Thomas Jefferson

Banned/Challenged Books

Books that are banned of challenged has never been something I really thought of, but I saw something one day about Banned Book Week. So I started researching some book that have been challenged or banned by schools or libraries. Honestly I didn't know libraries challenged books, I did know that schools would remove books that they deemed inappropriate.

The House Of Night series by P.C Cast and Kristen Cast

This book was challenged at the Austin Memorial Library in Cleveland, Texas in 2014. It was one of many books that were challenged that had a vampire theme. A local minister asked that the “occultic (sic) and demonic room be shut down, and these books be purged from the shelves, and that public funds would no longer be used to purchase such material, or at least require parents to check them out for their children.”

If I Ran A Zoo by Dr. Seuss

This book was challenged but retained at the Vancouver, Canada, Public Library in 2014. There is a line in the book that states that the helpers who “all wear their eyes at a slant,” They also felt that the illustrations were stereotypical are racial stereotypes of Asians. The library no longer reads the book at story time. They also no longer promote it other than as a resource material in a study that shows how the portrayal of other cultures has changed over time.

Diary Of Anne Frank by Anne Frank

Apparently this book was banned (didn't see where) because it was too depressing and at one point there was a brief mention of genitalia. It was challenged by Wise County, Virginia in 1982 and also in Alabama State Book Committee in 1983.

Carrie by Stephen King

This novel was challenged by Clark High School library in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1975. It has been considered by some to be trash especially for young girls. In 1978 at Union High School library, Vergennes, Vermont it was placed on a special closed shelf.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller

Challenged by Cumberland Valley High School, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in
1982. It is thought to be dangerous because it contained "sick words from the mouths of demon-possessed people."

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silversteiin

It is considered by some to undermine parental, religion and school authority. It was taken off of shelves for review by MinotNorth Dakota, public school libraries in 1986. It was challenged by Xenia, Ohio school libraries in 1983.

I understand that some books might offend people due to certain content, however as a reader I think it is wrong. I could understand if the book was about to worship the devil or something, but most banned books have nothing like that in them. If a book offends you, don't read. Simple as that. I don't think its wrong to censer what your kids read, that is your right as a parent and I plan to do the same when I have children. However once people reach a certain age they should be able to read what they want. How else can you discover some of the great gems that some books are. Sure they may have some racy content, but they are great books nonetheless.
