Something I'd like to read

Image result for excited book reader

I'm going to try something different and discuss a book that I haven't read but really want to. I'm not sure about other people, but when I'm able to buy a book that I have been dying to read, I'm like a kid in a candy store!

The Ghost Bride is Yangsze Choo's first novel and has been well received by many readers. It has received many award nominations. This novel infused with Chinese folklore but also have elements of romance and supernatural intrigue. I love books that give readers a glimpse into other cultures. It gives me a chance to learn things that otherwise I may have never become aware of.

The daughter of a well respected family in colonial Malaysia, Li Lan is hopeful for an agreeable marriage. However due to the financial hardships her family has recently faced, she is instead urged by the wealthy Lim family to become a "ghost bride." for their deceased son. Ghost brides are used to calm a restless spirit.  This marriage would insure that Li would be taken care of for the rest of her life.
However during the night Li is drawn into a dark
parallel world of the afterlife. There she must discover the secrets of the Lam family and of her own.

I am very intrigued by this world that Yangsze has created and cant wait to read her debut novel. I hope that she will continue to write novel that  grab our attention and refuse to let go.

Pretty Little Killers; The Truth Behind the Savage Murder of Skylar Neese by Daleen Berry and Deoffrey C. Fuller

True crime books have always interested me. They are haunting and it can be hard to absorb the harsh facts. This book was no different. I saw this case on some show on the ID channel and it was immediately fascinated. This wasn't just a case of a teenager being killed. It was a case about a young girl who was murdered by two people that were supposed to be her friends.
Skylar Neese was like most teenage girls. She loved to hang out with her friends and although she was responsible, she did do some things her parents wouldn't have approved of. On the night of July 6, 2012, Skylar snuck out of her home in Morgantown, West Virginia to hang out with her two best friends. Unfortunately Skylar had no idea that Rachel Shoaf and Shelia Eddy planned to murder her that summer night. They drove out to remote location and on the count of 3 they began to stab her.  Afterwards, they covered Skylar's body with branches and left her there. I truly believe that both girls are sociopaths. Both girls said that the only thing that Skylar said during the brutal attack was "why?'
Why did two teenage girls decide to kill their friend? The girls said it was because they "didn't like her."
Killers Rachel Shoaf & Shelia Eddy murdered killed 16 year yr old Skylar Neese West Virginia best friends mom dad parents  Shelia gave us a look inside her twisted mind through her twitter account during the months before her arrest. It really doesn't take a physiatrist to see that this girl is evil.

This book is haunting and really makes you stop and think about the horrors that some people are capable of.

The Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill

Image result for chicagoland vampires
I could honestly talk about this seriI es all day long. Chloe Neill creates
a fascinating world in which the public has been made aware of the existence of vampire. There are 12 vampire houses, which are basically their group or clan.

Merit is a twenty-seven year old grad student whose life completely changes when she is turned into a vampire by the master of the Cadagon house, Ethan Sullivan. Merit is an amazing character. She really transform through out the series. She starts out an angry and naïve young vampire to a bad ass warrior. She is the Sentinel of the Cadagon house. Her job is the protect the house and her master.

Meritt and Ethan have an immediate and intense attraction. Their relationship drives me crazy at times! In the beginning of the series Ethan has a really hard time committing. As the master of the house he has a lot on his plate and keeps finding reason to put the breaks on their relationship.
It may sound crazy but I was seriously mad at Ethan! I believe many of my fellow book addicts understand how characters can really put you through an emotional rollercoaster! I really like them as a couple despite the drama. They are completely different characters but to me that's part of what I like about their relationship. I haven't finished all the books available yet, and I'm interested how their love develops.

This series has all the elements that I love. Romance, action and supernatural creatures. Honestly what more could you ask for? Some people may think vampires are overrated, but I promise this series is amazing and I hope you will love it as much as I do.
